Pledge Stats

Denari calculates a number of statistics (stats) for a pledge. Most can be used as filters in a Pledge Segment to allow you to get a list of selected pledges. They can also be used to analyze your pledge activity and success.

It is import to remember that the pledge stats are recalculated each night so making a change to a pledge today may not result in updated results until the next day.

Some of the definitions below rely on the presence of a Stop Date in the pledge. The Stop Date is optional but using it or not using it has consequences that you should know about. If you use a stop date Denari knows exactly how many payments to expect. For example, if you have a pledge that is $25 per month with a Stop Date set to one year from the start date,  Denari can calculate the $25 payment times 12 and know that the Total Amount Pledged is $300.

The downside to using a stop date is that the pledge stops. If the donor wants to continue on with their pledge, someone has to either set up a new pledge or extend the stop date for this pledge. This requires more management effort.

The advantage of not using a stop date is that the pledge never stops. This is, of course, great for EFT or CC pledges. They will just go on until the donor tells you to stop. The disadvantage of not using a stop date is that Denari doesn’t know how many payments to expect so it can’t calculate an accurate Total Pledged amount. So what it does instead is use the number of payments from the start date. In our example of the $25 pledge starting on June 1, it will show the Total Pledged as $25. On July one, the Total Pledged will be $50 etc. This makes calculating the grand total of all pledges more difficult and the Total Pledged amount invalid for some of the stats.

Definitions

% Fulfillment Rate: The % paid compared to the Total Pledged (See the definition of Total Pledged below.) Since the Total Pledged relies on a Stop Date, if you choose to not use a Stop Date for some or all of your pledges, this field will not be accurate.

Paid Thru Date: The paid thru date is calculated determining how much the pledge costs the person per day by using the following formula:

(PLEDGE FREQUENCY * PLEDGE.PAYMENT AMOUNT)/365.25

Therefore a $25 monthly pledge would have a daily cost of $0.82 a day. This number is then used in combination with the total amount paid to calculate the total number of days paid by dividing the total amount paid by the daily cost (Example: the donor paid $550. Therefore $550/0.82 = 670.73)

Now that I have the number of days paid, I use that number (for monthly pledges) to figure up how many months that represents by dividing by 30 (our example is 670.73/20 = 22.35. I only take the integer portion....22. ) Now I add 22 months to the start date of the pledge and that is paid thru date. With a start date of 9/1/2003 and having paid 22 months, the paidthru date is 7/1/2005.

Next Payment Date: Based on the Start Date. The Start Date can also be thought of as the Anniversary Date. If a pledge starts on June 1 of a monthly pledge, then a new payment is due July 1, another on August 1, etc. If the donor has made all payments through July, then the Next Payment Date is August 1.

Last Payment Date: The last time a payment was entered for this pledge.

Due So Far: Shows what should have been paid to date. It does not consider what has been paid. So if this is a $25 per month pledge and you are 3 months into the pledge then the Due As Of field will show $75 regardless of what has been paid. In other words, its not showing a balance or what is Due.

Ahead/Behind: The difference between what should have been paid, Due As OF (Due So Far) field minus Paid So Far. It determines if the pledge is ahead or behind as of this date. If the pledge is behind it will show a number surrounded by parenthesis indicating that it is negative.

Remaining: Similar to Ahead/Behind. It calculates Due As Of minus Paid So Far, however, it shows the negative remaining amount as a positive number. This can be useful as a merge field in statements to the donor in that it allows you to express the amount that they are behind differently.

Total Pledge: Payment Amount  Number of Payments based on Frequency. Since the Number of Payments relies on a Stop Date, if you choose to not use a Stop Date for some or all of your pledges, this field will not be accurate.

Pledge Balance: Total Pledged minus Paid So Far. Since the Total Pledged relies on a Stop Date, if you choose to not use a Stop Date for some or all of your pledges, this field will not be accurate.

Days Past Due: Calculates the Number of Days the pledge is behind as a comparison of Due So Far and Paid So Far. If the pledge starts on June 1 and no payment has been made by July 1, then the pledge is 30 days behind.
